Rue%20Magazine%20Issue%201

I am so excited about this brand new on-line magazine! I was hesitant at first reading a magazine on the screen, but the controls make it easy and the magazine is simply terrific!

Photo of the Day

From the 2008 BBC adaptation of Emma, this is a photo of Jonny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley. I chose it because this is just how I feel today-enjoying the autumn colors and embracing the cool, crisp air. This photo seems to capture all of that with his sable brown coat, cane and top hat, and dapper ascot of the period. The sun is shining, and he couldn't be happier, as he walks probably from his house to Emma's. Mr. Knightley is quite a character to remember.

Happy almost Autumn!

Jessica Helgerson

I just discovered this designer a couple of days ago. She was voted one of 20 designers to watch by Traditional Home in March 2010. Something about her aesthetic really speaks to me. I think it is her emphasis on clean lines and symmetry, while working within a background of the traditional. Also, she is an environmentally green designer and only works with sustainable materials, which makes me admire her even more for it.

Mr. Darcy in the Bath

I wanted this to be my first post, not only because it is timely (Colin Firth was just voted most handsome man in England), but because it doesn't get any better than this bath. If I had to choose one room in the house it would be a beautiful bathroom, and this bathroom at Netherfield is the one I would choose. Copper bathtub, beautiful fireplace, simple and elegant wallpaper and moldings, window to the grounds, not terribly big, but just lovely!

Actually, I love this scene in the movie. Lizzie playing with the very large dog outside, and Mr. Darcy in his very personal bath gazing at her from the window with loving eyes. Wow!

My favorite period in literature, my favorite period in design, the Regency.
Watch video to get to the scene above starting at around 2:22. Enjoy!

Grand Opening of Forage!

Announcing one of my two new blogs: Forage! I am very excited about this one because I will finally have a blog exclusively dedicated to design, which is what I do best and spend most of my time reading about. My premier blog, the Wingchair Traveller, was an experiment to start, but evolved over time into a book and writing blog. I did mention at the beginning of my blog writing career that I may need more than one blog. Well, now I will have 3! Please also pay a visit to From the Hand. This blog will be dedicated to all things hand-made, be it by myself or someone else.
